Few years ago I started a tradition of drawing through New Year's night. This time around the original silhouette sketch was done few days before, but the rest was painted during the night and slightly polished up the following day. I didn't have a chance to draw creatures in quite a while, so this was the perfect opportunity to include them, and recently watched new Moomin series might've been one of the inspirations.
End of the year illustrations tend to work like a benchmark for everything I've learned during the year. In this case I focused mostly on storytelling aspects, which ended up taking most of the creative process fixing parts that either didn't make sense or just weren't readable enough. For this, asking people around for feedback provided most useful as we tend to be too deep into our drawings to be able to see them with fresh eyes. And all of my real life observations and reading up on colour theory just clocked with this piece and transition from greyscale to colour was way smoother than ever. Progress!
I hope 2022 will be a better year for all of us, both in art and in other aspects. With that said, Happy New Year!
